Summer is a Great Time for Seaside Property Selling

Date Published 04 June 2025

Britain's seaside towns are still extremely popular for visitors over the summer months. Although the advent of cheap flights in the 70s hit some local tourist economies hard, recent years have seen an upsurge in so called 'staycations'.

Visiting an area and having a great time can easily lead to falling in love with it. Many people have a dream of living by the sea, and some decide to make that vision a reality.

That's why the summer slowdown that is usually expected by most estate agents isn't necessarily true for us - we're local property experts in and around Worthing and we know that this can be a great time for anyone thinking of selling their home.

Holiday life
Of course a short stay in a certain place can present a very different view than the reality of living there fulltime. Although a holiday is meant to be relaxing, it's often filled with activities and doing things that wouldn't normally apply.

Likewise, living by the coast in Sussex is not quite the same in the winter when the storms are driving in off the sea or rolling in from the hills of the South Downs. However, most people understand that all-round living will be different and that often forms a large part of the appeal.

Coastal living
Official figures have shown that around 3 million people live in the main seaside resorts of the UK fulltime. In and around Worthing there are over 100,000 residents.

There is definitely a general 'quality of life' that is quite different from inland urban areas. The proximity of the sea on one side and the unspoilt nature of the South Downs on the other offer many different opportunities that most cities or large towns simply can't compete with.

A traditional seaside appeal of beach, pier and fish 'n' chips isn't one that's outdated - quite to the contrary, Worthing's cultural history is one of its great attractions.

Of course there is a great deal of choice when it comes to property too - and the warmer, lighter summer months are the best for viewings!

Summer sales
In general the property market does slow down over summer. However, local property trends can 'buck the market' in significant ways and that's certainly true when it comes to selling a coastal property.

Of course, that doesn't mean somewhere that's on the beach - one of the great things about Worthing is that everywhere is close to some of the very best that nature provides.

We love working and living in Worthing. It's why we choose our central location just around the corner from the pier for our office - it's a statement that says we're at the centre of town and at the heart of Worthing living.

As one of the leading estate agents in the area we know how much appeal living here has to the many people who dream of making it their home. So if you're thinking of selling, get in touch now - it really is the right time to get moving!
